About the RRVGG

Greetings & welcome to the domain of the Red River Valley Gaming Group! The RRVGG debuted in 1991 meaning that some of us have been gaming together, off and on, for nearly three decades. Our core group fractured in 2007 into three separate groups with some players bouncing between the three. One of those groups relocated to South Dakota, the other to Crookston Minnesota while the four most prolific players briefly relocated to Perley Minnesota and finally to Ada Minnesota. As anyone who has ever hosted a table-top role-playing game will know, often with a heavy heart, players come and players go. Life is full of new meetings and final farewells. This was never more true than when one of our long time players passed away, unexpectedly and without warning, in 2013. Since that time a second has moved into a retirement home and is no longer capable of playing his most beloved characters in his most beloved of worlds. In 2017 a new individual has since joined our cadre and has expressed an interest in playing RIFTS®. While we would prefer at least another one or two players we have sustained games with only three participants before. At all stages of its existence though the RRVGG has always been the same; Our trademark is role-play as opposed to roll play, deep character backgrounds, story line continuum and realism.

As the logo above suggests the RRVGG specializes in RIFTS®, the popular role-playing game from Palladium Books®. We do not limit ourselves to gaming in this one setting. We have been known to play Beyond the Supernatural™, Ninjas & Superspies™ & Nightbane® - also from Palladium Books®. Additionally we have delved into Dungeons & Dragons 2nd & 3rd Editions, Werewolf, Vampire the Masquerade, Streetfighter & Shadowrun.

From the Winter of 2005 to the Summer of 2007 the RRVGG was an official gaming club recognized in the region & given special privileges by Mark Erdmann of Hobby Hut in Moorhead MN. Our game club suffered it's own "crisis of treachery" that summer when a disenchanted player opted to go to Hobby Hut and badmouth the game club, the host location & our membership in general. All of this because he wanted to split our club into two separate clubs which had been proposed during a club meeting and was at the time unanimously declined. While there he removed our recruitment flier, our "Save Palladium Books" flier, our sample newsletter and proceeded to try to recruit members for a new game club which never took off. In the interests of family and associates the club president resigned and with no other parties interested in stepping up to the job the club was fractured into the three aforementioned groups that summer.

If you are in the Red River Valley and are looking for a RIFTS® group to join we are always on the lookout for additional members. Our game location, at present, is planned to be one of three locations in Ada Minnesota. We are open to discussion of alternate host game locations!

Who are we?

Angelina D. May

"It's hard to stop Muggles from noticing us if we're keeping dragons in the back garden - anyway, you can't tame dragons, it's dangerous." - Ron Weasley

I start with this quote for my opening for a few reasons. Firstly, because I'm a Harry Potter Fan, and even more than that, I'm a huge fan of dragons. Imagine what it would be like to have a dragon in your back yard? Wouldn't it be fun? I'm sure dragons would be very hard to tame though, even the tame ones could slip up sometimes. My name is Angelina D. May. I live in Ada MN and I am 41 years old. I have played RIFTS® for 22 years now and have enjoyed every moment of it. It has given me a way to step into a realm of fantasy and yet a realm that is similar to our own. I've played many different characters in RIFTS® from humans to dragons and many things in between. My favorite character is Alekesis Dromana, known as Alexis Parkhurst to most, a Chiang-Ku™ dragon hatchling. She was my very first character and I love her to pieces for many reasons. Her story line is long and complex but but that is what has made her so fun to play! Twenty-two years later she is very high level, has 2 insanities and is always struggling with the awkward phase between child and adult as an adolescent dragon. It's been so fun playing her and I hope everyone who has played RIFTS® has that one favorite character because you will always cherish them. To the RRVGG; Current & Former - I love you guys! Thank you for all the Memories!! I look forward to making MANY more!

Edward A. May

My name is Edward A. May and I was the former President of the RRVGG Club. I've been gaming since 1991 when the Knoell family first introduced me to table-top role-playing games at the tender young age of 13 - nearly 14. I loved it and have been hooked ever since! My favorite system was also my first; RIFTS®. While I mostly GM for RIFTS® now - I welcome the opportunity to play it whenever I possibly can! In the past I've played Ninjas & Superspies™, Nightbane®, Beyond the Supernatural™, D & D 1st Ed., AD & D 2nd Ed, Streetfighter, VTM & Werewolf. I am currently the sole experienced Game Master left in our dynamic duo (trio now?) and have been the Webmaster for The RRVGG RIFTS® Gallery since September 9th, 1996.
