Wa-Daisho Samurai Trooper O.C.C.

By Edward A. May

The Samurai of Wa-Daisho are the common foot soldiers of the Red Devils. Their training differs greatly from the CS Grunt style training prevalent in the Eastern American feudal Kingdoms.

Wa-Daisho's approach to training was to make every soldier a jack of all trades in an effort to lose the 'specializationism' of larger military forces that existed prior to the coming of the RIFTS. This allows smaller kingdoms to make best use of their smaller number of troops.

Samurai training begins with a grueling twelve week boot camp which molds the body into a true athletic form. After this harsh training period in which the troopers learn the essentials, their performance records and notable histories allows the training commander to pick and choose training programs, to further their usefulness to the Red Devils. This additional training, lasts another whopping 12 weeks.

A neutral military expert would find the training programs to be too aggressive, and perhaps a bit dependent on hand to hand combat. Even with this having been said, Wa-Daisho' Samurai Trooper's skills with energy weapons and modern vehicles are at least equal to the Coalition States. The lack of specialization is ideal for small military units - if you call over 5,000 troops small.

The "Samurai" as all Wa-Daisho military personnel have come to be known as, are very highly respected by the populace of Wa-Daisho. It is not a little known fact, that the training courses are extremely difficult, thus those who do make it through their training are considered highly respectable. Wa-Daisho was founded on very honorable principles as well - very close to those which have resulted in the Cyber-Knights of North America, thus Samurai of Wa-Daisho oftentimes have an almost knightly attitude about them - and are thus viewed with much the same respect. The difference between the Cyber-Knights and the Wa-Daisho Samurai Troopers, is largely in what they are trained for. The Samurai are taught to respect their home of Wa-Daisho - and to treasure what it means. They are also taught that sometimes to bring peace, the sword must be put to war - and they are quite fanatical about defending the rights of freedom and justice for the people of Wa-Daisho and their allies.

Personal Items

Note: Under most circumstances, the body armor, side arm, & Vibro Daisho (Katana & Wakizashi) are allowed to be kept by the trooper after his/her service is complete. They are considered symbols of their noble service to the Republic of Wa-Daisho. In regards to these items, most former Samurai Troopers, if Wa-Daisho were ever endangered, would again don their weapons and armor and would report to the Republican Guard Division for assignment. These troops would be used in support of operational field units, rather than in direct combat.

Money: Starts with 1D4 months worth of Cadet pay, which would be 2,500 credits a month.
