N.O.M.A.D. Military

At the founding of Desert Star King Ace Ripley realized that it would be impossible to hold "Project Archive" for himself without additional assistance - and protection. Though he had the wealth of a King, even before he succeeded with S-Mart years later, he did not have the power of a King to protect his own Kingdom. There were far too few people in Desert Star yet to even consider enlisting large numbers of them into the service either - so Mercenaries were his only real option. He would call them, "The Royal Hired Army of Desert Star". For this task he hired an eccentric underworld figure named Rob Zombie who was vastly familiar with the workings of the mercenary world. Through his aid mercenaries from Kingsdale, El Paso, El Dorado, Ciudad Juarez, Tolkeen, and several of the Colorado Baronies flooded into his new Kingdom. In total there were approximately 350 of them - enough to protect against Pecos Raiders, small bandit organizations in the west, and the like - but not enough to protect against a determined invader. Meanwhile the city prospered and flourished - growing by leaps and bounds thanks to the newly discovered mineral wealth in Desert Star, as well as the budding industry of the city Capos Industries.

In 110PA the city promised to continue it's phenominal growth - but then the unforseen occurred. During one of King Ripley's various business trips abroad, Coalition States Special Forces invaded the city in secret, and siezed it during the night from local authorities in a classic "Trojan Horse" maneuver. For six months the city was held by CS Special Forces, sometimes with as many as five hundred CS soldiers in place. The D-Bees of the city were brutally interrogated, man, woman, and child - some even raped, and most later publicly executed. The humans of the city were treated firmly - interrogated regularly, and confined indoors on little more than a starvation ration per person. Significant military and industrial personnel were interrogated on site. If they appeared to be of any use, they were sent East on Death's Head Transports, if not they were either relegated to the remainder of the prisoners or were executed. Project Archive remained elusive during those six months though even with the interrogations, the entrance was not only hidden, but several faux archives were in place, and all were protected - by more than just men and women. Automated robots, activated by the A.I. that identified itself as Project Archive protected it as well.

After six months though the CS's reign of terror over Desert Star would come to an end. Nyan Tamya and Silk, who had both been contacted by King Ripley after he found his Kingdom in chains, and the Tenzan Elite of Wa-Daisho performed their own Trojan Horse maneuver. Several ancient sewer pipes were still in place under the foundations of the city and some of these were mere inches away from the walls of the present city's sewer system. These would be the roadways under the powerful walls of Desert Star.

Once inside the city the Tenzan Elite, Nyan, and Silk all went fast to work on the unsuspecting and unprepared special forces operatives inside. Losses among the Tenzan Elite were scandalously low, and many fell before the martial prowess of Silk and Nyan Tamya themselves. Early success quickly turned into a full route of the enemy forces. Liberation seemed soon at hand - but the air forces of the special forces remained a looming threat. Three gunship versions of the Death's Head Transport, more heavily armored, and much more heavily armed were primed and ready on the small airfield in the city. These would soon become key players in the final stage of the battle. It is unclear now who exactly did it - but someone, some rumor Silk, others rumor King Ripley himself - stole one of these three gunships and attacked the other two as they prepared to attack the liberation forces, in a lumbering dogfight over the lands of Desert Star. Both of the aircraft in the hands of the enemy were destroyed by the unknown defender and the captured aircraft was rammed into a departing APC V, believed to be carrying the battalion commander.

With the liberation of Desert Star finally declared - fast work was necessary. While 24% of the population of the 35,000 plus city was dead or missing, the people that remained had changed under CS rule. They were spiteful and hatefilled for what the Coalition States had done to their new home. The defenses were in ruins, their children were frightened, friends and family were dead or missing. Desert Star was virtually defenseless without her mercenary defenders - but with the sudden polarization of the people an indiginous military was now possible. Possible by building on the foundation of the people's anger, fear, and the martyrhood of the various peoples lost. What few mercenaries remained became the core to this new military organization.

The N.O.M.A.D. Military was firmly established in 112PA, as an elite military force remarkable for their ability to adapt to different climates, conditions, and missions - hence the name N.O.M.A.D.; Night Or Midday, Assault or Defence. As S-Mart matured in 113PA, so too did the N.O.M.A.D. Military. Over the coming years the N.O.M.A.D. Military would come to use some of the most capable military equipment manufactured on the face of the planet - both before and after the cataclysm, thanks to Project Archive.

While the N.O.M.A.D. Military IS largely a technological force to be reckoned with, there is a psychic/magic element to the military called the Psi-Mag Division. Oftentimes major commanders will have Psi-Mag advisors, field units will have embedded Psi-Mag squads or individuals, and similar - all for the purpose of understanding and overcoming psychic/magic opponents AND for using it to better the capabilities of their' technological military.

There are no separate branches to the N.O.M.A.D. military like Air Force, Navy, Army, etc. There is only the N.O.M.A.D. Military and it's various units involved. This allows for far greater coordination than having separate branches entirely. Those that are assigned to the Allied Naval Fleet often fall under the command of Wa-Daisho or Kyatashiro Naval personnel.

N.O.M.A.D. Military Numbers: Roughly 10% of the population serves in the military at any present moment, with an additional 20-25% having served sometime in the recent past.

    9,750 N.O.M.A.D. Active Military Personnel
    19,500-24,375 N.O.M.A.D. Veteran Military Personnel
1,250 N.O.M.A.D. Active Military Personnel Attached to A.N.F. Command. (Approximately)

Occupational Classes of the N.O.M.A.D. Military

The N.O.M.A.D. Military training programs are unique in an old world sort of way, using a generalized form of training followed by specialist training. (Very similar to the New Navy's approach to sailor training.) This class is known as the N.O.M.A.D Soldier. Another facet of the N.O.M.A.D. Military are the elite Dalmirian guards of Shaquela Castle, trained on the planet Dalmir - homeworld of Mahelian Shaquela. These fall under the Dragonguard (Draagóne Aequem) O.C.C.. For details on the organizational structure, such as the ranks, and their related pay scales please see here; N.O.M.A.D. Ranks & Pay Scales.

Equipment of the N.O.M.A.D. Military

The equipment of the N.O.M.A.D. Military is largely produced by Desert Star's industry S-Mart and her sister corporation Capos Industries. What is not produced by these two companies in Desert Star, is traded for from among the various Allied Nations. A note regarding N.O.M.A.D./S-Mart's relationship. It is King Ripley's intention that the N.O.M.A.D. Military have the BEST equipment available for their use solely. S-Mart, having just started heavy duty business in 113PA, was not capable of producing the absolute best equipment designs and such were provided for - thus S-Mart worked on building up their technology base, producing lesser types first, and then gradually working up to the best. What that means for the N.O.M.A.D. Military's list of equipment is that they are constantly under flux - constantly upgrading to this type or that type - only to move to the next level a couple of years later. While this seems expensive at first glance it really isn't. As S-Mart and the Kingdom of Desert Star are inextricably intertwined, it's essentially the same entity. The equipment that is bought by the N.O.M.A.D. Military is later returned to S-Mart, refurbished, and then sold - still incurring a modest profit in the process.
